A child is dead because we didn’t speak up, we didn’t lift a finger. We’ve taken racism as a joke, and continue to deny privilege and deny where power lies in this country. Its obvious that tonight, as with all nights, power resided with the authorities, who took it upon themselves to murder an innocent child, simply because they could. But they aren’t the only ones accountable. Its the fault of all of us white people, who set up this system where police can kill a kid and its “just a regular Monday” for all of us. We don’t stop to see the mounting body count of POC, being murdered by us privileged, selfish, white people. Tonight, as you lay down to sleep, think of the mother unable to sleep because her Heart and Soul was murdered. Think of all the countless mothers and fathers and siblings through the long decades who have suffered the loss of a family member because we were too fucking lazy to stop the hate. Most of all, think about how, if this child were white, the reaction would be universal outrage, and justice would come quickly. Then remember that this child wasn’t white, and justice isn’t guaranteed for him, or for the many other POC we have murdered. Exactly how many more POC have to die before we get off our asses and do something?
